Monster Fish!

Mr. Redneckhillbillies hopped on the Honda FatCat dirtbike last night after work with his fishing rod and a small bag of tackle to toss a hook into the water.

pssst if you don't know what a FatCat is, go see the REDNECKHILLBILLIES on youtube. About five or six videos ago I posted a lengthy video about his little garage project. It's awesome. Go see it!

As I was saying...
He called me about an hour or so later telling me to bring a cooler down to the river because he'd just caught the biggest spring salmon of his life and there was no way he could bring it home on the motorcycle!

He wasn't kidding!

It was a buck (a male) and it was HEAVY. We didn't have any way to weigh it, but we guess it was probably in the neighbourhood of 35lbs, because it weighed about the same as a mitre saw which Mr. Redneckhillbillies is accustomed to carrying around.
What a beauty! For a fish, that is! Look at the size of its head! I cooked up just one steak from this fish for dinner tonight for a taste and four of us only ate half of it. I'm going to have to repackage the meat in smaller portions for our freezer!

Hmm maybe it's time to pick him up one of these fish whisperer tees!

Party Time!

What kind of party, you ask? You name it. Birthday parties, bbq parties, retirement parties, bachelorette parties, a party for nothing more than having a party.

Yesterday morning there was a request for party invitations on the Zazzle message boards. Dozens of excellent invitations for all kinds of celebrations were shown. The original poster apparently found all she needed in the first couple of hours. She didn't choose any of mine, (WAH!)  and used a few examples I wouldn't have personally chosen.

That's what makes Zazzle so great though - a very wide range of products to cater to all kinds of different people and tastes. What I think is awful will sell by the hundreds. What I think is beautiful, will sit on page 25, unviewed, unbought, and unloved. (shrug)

No problem! I'll  post the ones I would have chosen if it were me and the blog was mine. We'll just pretend for a minute that I am the bestest, greatest, most excellent-est invitation chooser and blog writer. I might even throw a couple redneck invitations in there for good measure if you're lucky.

*ahem* Here we go.
I'm not sure why I'm clearing my throat, I should be stretching my fingers instead... anyhoooo

A few generic invitations to start out with. Whatever the reason for the party, either of these would do.

This one is great for a baby or child birthday gathering, or it could be edited to work as a birth announcement or christening/baptism.

Did I say baby shower? OH, that's right ... I didn't! I love this little sock monkey baby shower invitation. So cute! I don't do "cute" so that says alot right there!

This funky and very stylish sweet 16 party invitation is perfect for your little sweetheart!

Scrap that!

In my last post I was whining about losing 4 facebook fans. I check again today and VOILA! They are back... or perhaps I gained a different four. Months from now I probably wouldn't even notice, but I am STILL under 100 fans and I'm still actively trying to get some momentum going for the whole Redneck Hillbillies shindig so it grabbed my attention.

So ... delete... delete....delete.... my last post and let's get on with something else, shall we?

I think that's a grand idea, y'all.

With the magic number of 100 still just out of reach, I figured I'd post some "100" designs on this blog post just for the heck of it. Maybe I'll get some good Joo-Joo out of the deal and gain those 7 fans I need to break the first threshhold.

So here goes. First up... money. It might not make the world go around, but it sure makes the ride a little more fun, don't it?!?

I sure could use a few of them purty bills in MY pocket!

Next on the menu for this afternoon is a 100% Redhead Tee that I actually snorted to. I do tend to have a reddish tinge to my hair, which fades to a lovely orange when I try to dye it, so this one was a good fit.

One of my own 100 percent t-shirts. ... because what's better than being a redHEAD? why, being a redNECK instead!

and even though this is pink (bleck!) and it has flowers (double bleck!) and ain't rednecky in the slightest... I tthought this might appeal to the folks who like pink flowers and other gaggy girly stuff like that. I figure if I live to be 100 years old, I would love to get a card like this one which is actually very, very pretty.... just don't tell anyone I said that!

If you're a tree hugging, soybean eatin', health nut  vegan who only shops local and ain't seen the bottom of any bottle well then this is for y'all. Ok, I didn't really mean that. I grow only organic vegetables in my garden and we don't pump our cattle full of crap so I'm a weeeee bit organic. I fix that by drinking copious amounts of beer and sneaking the odd chemical laden, calorie rich chocolate bar! Straight to the behind is where all that garbage goes, but I do offer kudos to those of you who try harder than I do!

and for my final little plug, this nifty but very somber reminder that we are destroying our planet. Whether you think global warming is a farce or not, we are losing what makes our planet so awesome little by little. Check this out - you'll be glad you did.

Losing Fans.

Let me start off by saying that I'm new to the whole online social networking thing. I uploaded the first redneck hillbillies youtube video in July 2008, but didn't get on the twitter, blogger or facebook fan page bandwagon until fairly recently.

A couple days ago I had 93 facebook fans. Today I have 89.  I'm not sure why four people decided to leave? I haven't posted anything for a few days, mainly because I was out of town for the weekend and I didn't create any new products. Even if I had created rednecky stuff, I don't  want to spam the kind rednecks who decided to LIKE my page, there's only so many "Hey, check out this new T-shirt I made!" kind of posts that I can get away with before they all run away in droves. I haven't posted anything really offensive or rude, and there haven't been any racist comments written on the wall like many other redneck fanpages.... Hmmmmm.

I have ONE blog follower. :(  Blogs that are nothing but link farms have hundreds. *scratches head*
I have 9 people I think following me on Twitter.

If you happen to read this blog post, take pity on the poor redneck woman who wrote it and "LIKE" the RedneckHillbillies on facebook. Follow RNHillbillies on Twitter. Subscribe to our videos on Youtube. Follow this blog even. Every now and then I might actually write something worth reading!

Thanks, y'all!

Broccoli

I've been up to my elbows in broccoli tonight. Picking, trimming, washing.... the blanching and packaging will have to wait for tomorrow because my hands are done and my eyelids are heavy.

The whole Redneck Hillbillies family headed out  for a weekend away and came back to a messy looking overgrown lawn and a jungle garden. Everything in the garden has grown by leaps and bounds, leaving very little walking room. I got four more cucumbers, two yellow zucchinnis and of course mountainloads of broccoli!

I was a little late in getting the broccoli though.  The heads that were too small to pick just a few short days ago were now huge, with open yellow flower blossoms and the odd spot that needed to be cut away. I am sure broccoli is high on the list of the stinkiest vegetable ever to rot if t's not first! I have a cooler full of trimmed and washed broccoli ready for the blanching pot, and buckets of waste trimmings for the cattle.

I figured I'd post a few broccoli related items from other Zazzlers today since I don't have any of my own. Below is an assortment that I chose for various reasons - cute, silly, pathetic, ridiculous, original...

How about a play on words? I love these next few designs. While I might never wear anything even remotely broccoli related (or any other vegetable for that matter) they did make me chuckle. I hope you enjoy them!

Wishin' we were Fishin'

Day jobs tend to get in the way of all the fun stuff we'd be doing if we didn't have to deal with the 9-5.  or (10-2 in my case) Given the opportunity, I'm sure we'd be out havin' fun in the great outdoors every single chance we got.

I came up with a few new products after our trip to the river for salmon fishing last weekend. I've got a few more photos to work with, but this week has been CRAZY and I haven't had much computer time. I'm missing the one-on-one time with my beloved laptop!

This  was taken at the mighty Fraser River, along a bar not already crammed with fisherman or strung with nets for aboriginal fisheries. Spring Salmon are starting to come through and while the restrictions are extremely tight by allowing only one  in a very narrow size range to be retained, the odd fisherman is able to catch one.

Sockeyes are also coming through this time of year, but due to drastic reductions in the number of returning fish, this salmon fishery is closed and all sockeye bycatch have to be released. (For the sport fisherman anyways) I'll refrain from ranting about the poaching, the drift nets run along the same bar where we are forced to use a single barbless hook, and  "ceremonial" catches sold off the back of a truck. I suppose by mentioning it I have begun a rant... but I'll bite my tongue.

We tried for two days (half days) and got a bite or two but didn't manage to catch any. Mr. Redneckhillbillies was the only one with a hook in the water though, since Kidlet and I wandered around enjoying the water and snapping photos of the amazingly beautiful scenery.

Like the majority of products that I make in both the CountryCorner and RedneckHillbillies stores, the saying can easily be changed, but I thought it worked well with the two front row seats.

Life is beautiful. Get out there and enjoy it!

Going Nowhere?

I actually figured I was goin SOMEWHERE, but there may have been a few people who thought otherwise. Luckily for me I married someone headed somewhere other than nowhere, or I'd possibly be stuck en route to this fabled destination with a flat tire and a box of KD.

I've been selling quite a few bumper stickers recently which is out of the ordinary. Usually my main seller is T-shirts. Bumper stickers are quite a bit cheaper which may be a contributing factor, and maybe people are stickin' 'em on Quads and ratrods, or fishing tackleboxes even.

I suppose it could also have something to do with people heading out on roadtrips and wanting to let the other travellers know that they're bonafide Rednecks. This latest bumper sticker ain't really Redneck, per se.... but since alot of us rednecks tend to end up in that general location I figgered it fit just right.

Herded by an Aussie

Getting tired of hearing about Australian Shepherds yet?

NO?!?

Great! Have I got a treat for you then! I've come up with a couple new designs using a different photo of our smiling Aussie, Blue.

Many owners of Australian Shepherds will know that they are bred to herd small animals. In the absence of said small animals they will resort to herding any smallish type creature, including young children. They will nudge them, circle them, creep along the ground, nip at heels, pantlegs or arms, and generally be a nuisance while they are puppies. Aussies are puppies for A LONG TIME! It does take a while for them to learn who and what to herd, even though they are the second smartest breed of dog next to Border Collies.

With that in mind, I came up with this toddler shirt. Of course, if you are still being herded around it can be changed to any size or style of T-shirt.

They don't only herd though - they love with so much enthusiasm that it's contagious! Wiggling butts and smiling faces go hand in hand with awesome doggie personalities. They dutifully warm a spot on the bed for us, nuzzle and hug us by bashing us with their big heads, look at us with loving big brown or blue eyes, and give us big sloppy kisses They love kids of all ages, so I came up with this one shown on a baby sleeper.

and since us grown up kids love Australian Shepherds sooooo much,

My heart belongs to an Aussie

After sifting through the various products tagged with "Aussie" or "Australian Shepherd", I've decided that the world really could use some more of the classic I love type designs.

Many of the items I came across were text only, the odd one with some pawprint clipart. So I figured I'd come up with my own and try to add an extra little something to the marketplace by using my watercolor painting effect photograph of our own black tricolored Australian Shepherd, Blue.

I started with the picture that looked like this:

Carefully cropped out her sweet, smiling face and softened the edges a little bit, added a bright red heart to her long, flowing and extra soft chest fur, and added some text. (oh I want to go snuggle with my puppy!)

This is the first one

and then I figured I'd try to squeak another design out of my copy paste efforts with this beauty!

Now I'm off to see what  I can come up with that involves butt wiggling, nub wagging, or sloppy dog kisses since that's what these awesome herding dogs are all about!

Hunting Rednecks! Take 2.

Ssssshhhh! Be vewy, vewy quiet!

This was the original.

I tweaked a couple things on this design to avoid being flagged *again* and removed *again* for copyright violations. If you read my post a few days ago, titled Content Review, you'll know that I recently had multiple products with the original version deleted for trademark.

Here is the redone version.

You'll notice I changed the WE'RE to I'M (since the two designs allowed to remain on the marketplace both had I'M.) I also changed the wednecks to rednecks. I like the wednecks better, but perhaps it's changing all of the r's to w's that caught their attention. My request for clarification didn't get a response and it's been a few business days so they are not interested in explaining their reasoning, or how to get around it.

So far so good.
