Old Trucks

Eventually I'm going to have an old truck like this one parked out front as a lawn ornament. Perhaps I'll even use it as a garden planter of some sort, wouldn't that be neat?

I snapped this photo and others like it across from the airport, where a farmer had placed two of these old beauties in a shaded grassy area beneath the branches of an old gnarled tree.

Many other products with a close up view should be coming through the product chute eventually, but this poster has been published already. I am really happy with how this turned out. It's another poster that I might someday buy for our vintage games room.

I love the patina of the rusted out fenders, the fact that this antique truck hasn't got a piece of glass or trim left on it, and the way it reminds me of simpler (but in many ways harder) times long before I was born on the family homestead out on the prairies.

You Looking at ME?

I love this Emu portrait photograph that I took a couple years ago at the local game farm. (zoo) It's a lovely snapshot of a single bird, with tufts on it's head, beady eyes and a dangerous looking beak.

Much smaller than an ostrich, but intimidating all the same. It makes a sound like a beating drum and can probably inflict all sorts of damage and peck out a person's eyes out with that pointed beak or give them dozens of scratches with the razor sharp talongs on its legs if it felt threatened.

It's a whole lotta chicken type meat if you ask me. I've never had emu but there must be a reason why they are farmed and I bet it ain't for their feathers!

Birds of a Feather!

That would be an example of crazy old school jibberish that may be full of wisdom but always comes across as nonsense. I mean, really! What the heck does "Birds of a feather flock together" mean to the child that hears it for the first time?

Of course, it makes perfect sense now as an adult, saying it to my own featherless offspring.

Oh dear, I've become my mother! ;p

I made a couple birdy type items before work friday morning with photos of birds. One wild, one tame (or domesticated)so I have bird on the brain. Birdbrain? Yes, that's it exactly.

First up: This lovely owl. I'm not sure whether its a spotted owl, or a great white owl.. or a horned owl? It's a flippin' OWL anyhoo. Eventually I'm going to have to google it to input proper keywords. Just not today!

Next is a peacock. A very pretty peacock. Perhaps it is even a Pretty Peacocking Peacock.

Whadaya think? Yay! or NAY! ?

Cow Tipping?

Last week I edited an old image to suit a trucker hat. I like the way it turned out, so this morning I gave the design it's own folder and a dozen or so more products.

Cow tipping? Well I've never done it. Apparently it's complete BS that you can tip a cow, and I tend to agree with that since all of our cattle sleep laying down and run when we approach them on the field. Yet the whole cow tipping thing persists despite it being impossible. ... and a load of Bull puckeys - which coincedentally you'd step in if you ever tried cow tipping!

Here is the design reworked and on a redneck bumper sticker

Corn Shucking - Y'all know we are champion corn shuckers. What redneck doesn't like eatin chicken (also included)corn cobs, and washing it down with beer (also included) while chasin' skirts (ok *I* don't chase skirts, but bubba rednecks do!) or drivin' a truck.

Did I forget somethin'? Shoot me an email and maybe I'll throw it on a tee! ;p

Paint the town RED

That's right! Paint the town RED - er, I mean REDNECK.

You should know by now that almost anything can be twisted into something rednecky.

So stick on yer denim and shine them boots, jump in the ol' muddy 4x4 with a few cold ones and head on out to the holler in the backwoods with a couple buddies!

True redneck rebel style for the redneck girl or bubba that knows how to Paarrr-taayy!

Cut and Paste

I reread yesterday's post and realized that my cutting and pasting skills leave a little to be desired. Tsk Tsk. Attention to detail! Moving a photo for a product should include moving the description for said product after all, otherwise it just makes the person look like a gooomba and nobody understands what the heck I'm blathering about.

Most people don't understand what I am blathering about anyways so that's not unusual. :D

ANYHOO

I made this design yesterday after work which would work well for those that do the job RIGHT the first time and make it look easy. Unlike my screwy blog post but let's not bring that up again!

Photo ops

I usually have my camera along with me wherever I go. The odd time I've forgotten it at home, is when I come across something so spectacularly fantastic that I kick myself for NOT having it with me.

Sometimes it's right outside my front door which is even better. I can usually have my camera whipped out of its case, the card cleared, and the settings checked in mere seconds. This chicken is a perfect example. The neighbour has a bunch of 'em that sometimes wander over into our yard. This photo is the little red hen heading back home.

The text can be changed, I just thought it was funny. Others might not share my sense of humor ;p

A week or two ago I went to a duck pond with Big Chitlin and tried to capture the waterfowl there. I did get a couple good ones, but the light was harsh and the water glared so while the walk was nice, it was a waste as far as photos go. It was a nice break from paying bills and running errands though, and I was happy to snap photos even if I didn't end up with many good ones.

I took another look at those photos this morning and used another one which I figured I'd show you.

I did make a couple with sayings ("Come here often?" and "You so fine") but I'm drawing a blank when it comes to turtle sayings! Better that you come up with your own, I figure.

Redneck Friends

Hmmm let's see what's new in the Redneck Hillbillies store this morning, shall we?!

I sold a couple more redneck themed gifts over the weekend, including these stickers. One bumper sticker,

and my first sheet sold of round stickers. This lady must know alot of rednecks!

I took another look this morning at that Friends don't let Friends design I made a couple days ago and made two new versions. The first, intended to be for the youngins has "Grow up to be" in the all important field, instead of "go out with".

I then made a version where you can add your own text to create the perfect funny redneck T-shirt to suit rednecks of all ages. Be seen with, hang out with, ... I don't know all the possible combinations of what people might not want to be doing with rednecks so this way the choices are endless. While it works best for people who are against, or anti redneck, it might also be changed for them pro redneck folks too. Poke fun at yourself and the other redneck hillbillies out in the boonies with y'all, or in yer trailer park.

An Afternoon Fly Fishing

Mr. Redneck Hillbillies loves fishing - especially flyfishing, and its even better when it's on a pristine mountain reservoir lake that is really only fishable for two short months a year.

We missed opening day, because the weather was just awful and spending  a day in a little boat getting soaked didn't really appeal to me at all. July 2nd was a little better and we did get rained on a little bit here and there but for the most part it  was a great day for throwing a fly on the water.

Ross lake is a single, barbless hook lake with a bait ban. The lake itself spans across the border between the north cascades of the US and the skagit valley of southern BC. The water level fluctuates and the Canadian side is empty for many months of the year so we like to fish it when we can.  No gas motors are allowed in the river section so we just bring the small Lund and an electric troller for Ross.

I don't fish very often, but I like to come along anyways just to be in the great outdoors, enjoying the experience in my own way, watching and listening to wildlife,  manning (or woman-ing) the anchor, and snapping pictures and short video clips. I just uploaded this video tonight - check it out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K30dQ0mY0pQ

It's only 4 and a half minutes long, and covers an entire day from hooking up the fishing skiff to the vehicle, snapshots of the 46 km drive down the gravel road, the provincial park marker, dock and plaque describing how this reservoir lake came to be, three of the four fish caught, and some scenic views and wildlife. Four minutes is probably the outer limit of attention span of 90 percent of the youtube viewers.

I also made some products with a couple of the photos I took that afternoon

This is one of our anchors, as seen through the shallow river water on the rocky river bottom. I edited it a little to give it a surreal dreamlike quality. Here I  am showing it on a two sided business card for fishing supplies, or guide services and the like.

Next up is the little wood cabin type building along the edge of the lake.On some evenings, park attendants or rangers give slideshow presentations and talks about the lake or its wildlife. We once watched an informative show on Owls there after a long day of fishing - but we packed it up early to get home before nightfall this time around.

These wild orange tiger lillies are small and grow along the sides of the road. There are other types of wildflowers like daisies and fireweed but I liked these the best and made the Mr. stop so I could snap a photo of them. I didn't realize they were actually tiger lilies until I googled them at home because they are so much smaller than my garden version, and fully open early.

I've got a few more photos earmarked for products too, but they'll have to wait for another day.

Fish on!

Rednecks and Beer

Rednecks and Beer kind of go hand in hand. That might explain why whenever I create a new redneck design, I usually end up with a new beer design as well! I've only got a few minutes this morning, so instead of rambling on as I usually do, today I will just post links and show them on T-shirts.

The first - my take on the whole Friends don't let Friends...idea.  I may get around to doing a couple variations on this but for now the end of the sentence is "go out with Rednecks".

and the other one:

They are available on a wide range of products besides the t-shirts, including the smaller items such as keychains, fridge magnets, and pin style buttons or badges.

Classic Car Show

This past Saturday, the Big Chitlin and I moseyed on over to the downtown core of a nearby town for their annual classic car show. Rows of beautifully restored vintage vehicles were polished to perfection and on display for old car buffs.

We arrived later than we expected, and then had difficulty finding a place to park, so I only managed to snap a few dozen photos before the torrential downpour. Dressed in shorts and sandals, with a T-shirt and no way to keep my camera protected from the rain while shooting, we had no option but to leave early.

I did take a few shots that I think turned out ok. They all need a little editing to remove the hordes of people that were milling around, (and shortly afterwards got soaked like we did!)

Here's the three I've done so far - shown on mousepads but they are available on multiple different products. I might buy one as a poster for our recroom. I think old cars kinda work with pinball machines and old advertising signs!

Trucker Hats

For reasons I cannot explain, I seem to be getting alot of traffic from people looking for trucker hats. Yeah, I know right - TRUCKER hats!  Yuck, if you ask me!

Ugly, puffy retro looking things that are straight out of the 70's and require a mullet to wear them properly. *Shudder* The trucker hats I can deal with, mullets have to stay in the past thank you very much!

This morning I have been going through my zazzle image folder and adding some of the designs that I didn't use on hats just to see if they work.

With this one I altered the smaller text to include cow tipping, corn shucking, and skirt chasing. None of these are passtimes that I do per se, but I figured they might be more popular than toe tappin' and heel kickin' were on the original t-shirt design.

This morning I was browsing the forums and noticed a new post by a copycat advertising his/her new hillbilly t-shirt. Wouldn't ya know it - it was a cute little picture of a yellow chick, with "Hillbilly Chick" written on it.  Hmmm created by the same person who just yesterday said they'd checked out my store and I had some great stuff.

Deep breaths.

In.... Out..... Ok I feel a little better.

Good thing his/her design is not nearly as cute as my original version. *Sticking out my tongue!*

Perhaps it'll even bring more viewers to my product in the long run.

Anyhoo, I put this HICK CHICK graphic on a hat because for some reason I hadn't already done so.

One of my first designs, reworked to use a more grungy looking font, and without my website URL on it. I love how I can tell bellyachin whiners and grumbling complainers to quit bitching with strategically placed punctuation and symbols being used to help make it a little more acceptable. What foul language? What's wrong with an exclamation mark or a number sign? (wink wink)

...and of course I had to include my "Will Work for BEER" design, because at one time I did work for beer. Well (grumble grumble) that was before I wasn't allowed (moan and complain) to work for beer anymore because (roll eyes blah blah blah.)

Hmm maybe I should take another look at the quit your bitching hat again?!?!

Next up is a fishing hat with that cute little cartoon style graphic, and the watery dripping letters that spell out Fish Whisperer. The perfect choice for the avid fishing nut like Bubba. Too bad he doesn't usually wear anything but plain earthy toned T-shirts and he already has a couple good fishing hats.

Maybe someday I'll get him a T-shirt with a small and discreet image on it . Or not. (shrug)

and lastly (for this morning anyways)  .. our lovely JimBob red angus calf, with text that can of course be customized but for now says Rodeo Cowgirl.

The copycat has another almost identical t-shirt up based on my "I'm surrounded by Rednecks" idea. Same colors and everything. Tsk Tsk. I guess I'm gonna have to put that on a hat and some other products too before the day is through!

Beer Again. There's never enough BEER.

I made another couple products that feature those lovely pale ales or lagers in the bottle that I thought would make you thirsty.

First is a business card with the Got Beer? image

Then I used those same beer bottles, along with a nifty graphic of a wine glass being filled with a nice red wine. A big, bold, well oaked Cabernet Sauvignon perhaps? More than likely a fruit forward merlot or shiraz.

Ah, the redneck in me says "Who cares. It's red wine and it's probably at least 13% alcohol."

I figured these would appeal to the U-brews and Homebrewing supplies stores, Cold beer and wine retail outlets, caterers, liquor serving courses and the like.

Tick Tock.

It's been so quiet in my Zazzle store today that I can hear the clock ticking!

We'll see what tomorrow brings :D

Beer! Beer! and more BEER!

I love my job.

I cook beer at the local U-brew brew your own type place in town for a few hours, two or three times a week.

I ain't there for the money, because it doesn't pay much and I could make more working with the Mr. or some days even at home clicking away at the computer.  I ain't there for the social aspect of it either, since I am a quiet, reserved type person that doesn't play well with others. Plus, I'm tucked away beside a cooler and behind stacks of merchandise so even if I wasn't completely anti-social the opportunity doesn't present itself often to interact with the beer drinkin folk.

I'm here for the beer!

I love the whole process of homebrewing. The smell of the malt and hops as they bubble together and meld perfectly in the copper kettles,  the bubbling, rising yeast that turns what looks like swamp water into pure magic. The fast pace of measuring ingredients, rinsing fermenters, and  managing four kettles to maintain a good boil in timed intervals keeps me HOPping.  It's a play job, and the fact that I don't need to be there but I choose to be there makes it much more enjoyable.  I like that.

Ales, Lagers, Pilsners... Mr. Redneck Hillbillies (aka Bubba) loves the crisp and refreshing light lagers the best.  I think he must be 98% beer, instead of water.

People might not like me, but they sure do like what I can do.   With the nicer weather finally here, more people are thinking it might be nice to have a few cold brews in the fridge for summer get togethers.

So that begs the question - Got BEER?

Fishing Derby

We attended the Greg Clark Memorial annual northern pike minnow fishing derby on Father's Day weekend.
Mr. RedneckHillbillies and the Little Kidlet have gone for a few years now and always do well between the ticket draws and catch prizes.

This was the first year that I tagged along for the experience. Let me start off by saying that I have not fished since I was about kneehigh to a grasshopper. Ten, to be exact. So I was just happy to be out on the boat on the water, and learn how to cast the stupid fishing rod without tangling it all up. Once I got the hang of it, I got some much needed practice tying and retying and untying multiple different types of spoons and lures, bobbers and floats, and skewering wiggly worms on the end of a rusty hook.

The Mr. caught a beautiful trout which wriggled free before I could snap a photo. Sad, since that was the very first catch on the boat. Anyhow, with that first fish, the boat has been christened now, and the skunked curse has been lifted! :D

I snapped a few photos while there, some for our own photo CDs, and others for Zazzle.

Here's a couple items I put together this past week.

A cute little JRT x Tibetan spaniel named "Shiraz".

a bunch of smelly fish

and I still might try to work with a couple shots of boats and anchors later this week.

(oh, and btw - we didn't catch a single pike minnow which was the target fish. BUT the kids tickets both won us prizes. We ended up with two rods and reels, two salmon society reusuable shopping bags, a t-shirt, a pack of hockey cards, and a 10$ gift certificate to a steakhouse restaurant!)
